“Play it forward” – Craig McKelvie

Craig McKelvie is the Founder and CEO of The BootRoom Collection, the Middle East’s first and only luxury brand for exclusively signed sporting memorabilia, and a man who describes himself in three words: “a coach, creative and passionate”. With a career spanning over 24 years in the retail sector, McKelvie translated his passion for luxury retail into his own brand for sports memorabilia with The BootRoom Collection, alongside business partner and fellow Brit, Graeme Henderson.

Born in Manchester, United Kingdom, McKelvie has resided in Dubai for the past six years. He began his retail career at Marks and Spencer in Manchester in 1996 before moving into the luxury retail sector with Harvey Nichols, where he worked as the Menswear sales manager in Manchester and then the Flagship store Knightsbridge, London. He then moved to the Emirates to join Al Tayer Group as Deputy Store Manager for Harvey Nichols Dubai, and in early 2017 was promoted to Store Manager. After five years in the luxury retail game with Harvey Nichols-Dubai, McKelvie felt the time was right to launch his own brand in Dubai.

Craig shared his passion for football with his long time friend and current business partner, Graeme Henderson. The two sports fanatics discovered a gap in the market for sports memorabilia and decided to take the leap of faith and launch their own business. Craig reflects, “I took my passion for football and my passion for luxury goods, and combined them to create a product that was uniquely special for sports fans”.

Inspired by traditional sporting memorabilia with a luxury offering, The BootRoom Collection launched in Dubai in 2018. Driven by the philosophical belief of creating memorabilia “from fans, to fans”, The BootRoom Collection works with trusted partners to provide luxury quality in terms of framing and the technique used in packaging. Experts in luxury sports memorabilia tailored to the sports fanatics in the Middle East, The BootRoom Collection also offers customisations for fans.

Ever since he can remember, McKelvie says he has been a sports fanatic. “I was a Liverpool fan from the age of eight. During the 1987 FA CUP Final my grandmother told my brother and I to choose between the red or blue team, and the winner gets 50 pence. Being the older brother and a Manchester United fan at this point I chose Red, Liverpool, and ever since their 3-1 victory I have been a Liverpool fan.” Speaking on his own experience, McKelvie is proudest of starting his own company and something that he feels extremely passionate about
